Electrotechnical School Officer

An electrotechnical military school was established in 1857 in the capital of the Russian Empire , the city of St. Petersburg , under the name of a technical galvanic institution , which, together with a galvanic company, was at the disposal of the headquarters of the inspector general for engineering [1] .

History

In 1884, the institution was renamed the galvanic officer class , which was called the Electrotechnical officer class in 1891, and in 1894 the latter was transformed into a military electrotechnical school [1] .

The officer electrotechnical school aimed at:

1) training of officers and lower ranks of the engineering troops to perform those special duties where the use of electrical engineering is required.

2) the study of discoveries and inventions in electrical engineering, mine, subversive and telegraph affairs, which could find application in military affairs .

The school was subordinate to the chief engineer and consisted of the school’s administration, officer class, electrical company and training electric station [1] .

The officer class trained officers in electrical engineering and performed experiments and tests in this industry; the class had mine and telegraph rooms, electrochemical and chemical laboratories and other auxiliary units [1] .

The officers who successfully completed the class course received the right to wear a special badge and were distributed among the engineer troops , moreover, they were mainly assigned to serf mine companies and telegraphs [1] .

The electrical (until 1894 - Galvanic [2] ) company trained the lower ranks of instructors in electrical engineering and participated in the production of experiments and tests [1] .

The training electric station was aimed at practical acquaintance of officers and non-commissioned officers studying at the Electrotechnical School with the arrangement and operation of electric lighting, for which the station illuminated neighboring buildings of the military department [3] .

To study electrical engineering and practical acquaintance with electric lighting devices, 10 officers of fortress artillery were sent annually to the St. Petersburg gun factory, where an electric laboratory was set up for this purpose [4] [1] .

In 1913, officers were enrolled in the school — Alexander Milyukov, Lieutenant Colonel (according to the reference book All Petersburg)

After the October Revolution, the Officer Electrotechnical School ceased to exist, however, already in 1919 the Bolsheviks tried to create something similar, giving it the name "Higher Military Electrotechnical School of the Staff of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA)" (now the Military Communications Academy named after S. M. Budyonny ).
