Date of birth and entry into military service - unknown.
Military activities
On June 28, 1783, brigadier Baron Anton Osipovich Shits was appointed commander of the Tauride Light Regiment of the Yekaterinoslav Cavalry formed from the Slavic Hussars settled before. In 1790 , having surrendered the regiment to Colonel S. F. Godlevsky , he took under his command the Tauride Chasseur Corps , with whom he took part in the assault and capture of Anapa .
On November 29, 1796, by the decree of Emperor Paul the First, the Tavric cavalry regiment was disbanded due to the reduction of cavalry . Most of the officers and soldiers were dismissed or transferred to serve in other regiments. The founder and the first commander of the regiment - Baron Anton Osipovich Shitsu - in the early 1790s, the dachas of Hasanbay and Karagoz of the Feodosia district were granted for exemplary service.
A. O. Shits was a participant in the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791 .
Since 1789 - Major General , from 11.29.1797 - Lieutenant-General , from 04.15.1799 - General from the cavalry [1] .
In the period November 29, 1796 - March 7, 1800 - the chief of the Olviopolsky hussar regiment [2] .
Died October 15, 1810 in Feodosia.
Interesting Facts
- In 1787 , during the famous travel of Empress Catherine the Great in the South of Russia, Baron Anton Osipovich Shits presented Her Majesty his Tauride Light Regiment of the Ekaterinoslav Cavalry.
- All the dead defenders of Sevastopol during the Crimean War of 1853-1856 were buried on the mountain Dortkul on the outskirts of the city of Karasubazar . In the past, notable grandees and military leaders were buried on the top of this mountain, then a chapel stood there .
- Now at the top of the mountain there is a tower- repeater [3] . In 1981, when preparing the foundation for it, they dug a ditch in which they found a crypt where a man and a woman were buried. Later, in regalia, in the left clavicle, with a cut saber, and on the basis of archival materials, it was established that the Ekaterina’s general, Baron von Shitz Anton Osipovich, whose hussar regiment was stationed in Karasubazar, was buried in this crypt [4] .
- In 1824, a relative of the general, Baroness Julia Krudener, was buried in the same crypt [5] .
Awards
- Awarded the Order of St. George 3rd class (No. 92, February 19, 1792 ) - "In respect of diligent service, courageous deeds and excellent bravery, rendered during the storming of the corps under the command of General Gudovich of the city of Anapa with the destruction of the enemy there" [ 6] .
- He was also awarded other orders of the Russian Empire .
