Nestor Toivonen was born in 1865 in Kuroevessi (in the modern province of Pirkanmaa ), the Grand Duchy of Finland . In 1912, at the Olympic Games in Stockholm , speaking for the Finnish team, took part in competitions in three small disciplines and won two bronze medals.
After Finland gained independence, Nestor Toivonen was already in favor of an independent Finland. In 1920 at the Olympic Games in Antwerp, he took part in competitions in four small disciplines, and won the silver and bronze medals.
