(24603) Mekistey ( Greek: Μηκιστεύς ) is a typical Trojan asteroid of Jupiter moving at Lagrange point L 4 , 60 ° ahead of the planet. The asteroid was discovered on September 24, 1973 by Dutch astronomers C.J. van Houten , I. van Houten-Gruneveld and Tom Guerls at the Palomar Observatory and named after Mekistei , one of the characters in ancient Greek mythology .
