Biography
Arsenty Krishtal was born in 1913 in the village of Chemuzhovka (now - Zmievsky district of the Kharkov region of Ukraine ). He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm . In June 1941, Cristal was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He studied at the Stalingrad Military Tank School , but did not graduate from it and was again sent to the front. By January 1943, Petty Officer Arsenty Cristal was the driver of the 88th Panzer Brigade of the 15th Panzer Corps of the 3rd Panzer Army of the Southwestern Front . Distinguished during the Ostrogozh-Rossoshanskoy operation [1] .
On the night of January 18-19, 1943, the Cristal crew defeated a German convoy retreating from the city of Alekseyevka in the Belgorod Region , destroying about 50 vehicles and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers, with an assault on their armor. In that battle, the engine refused the tank, as a result of which the crew defended themselves from the enemy for four days until the main forces arrived [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943 for "courage and heroism shown in the Ostrogozh-Rossoshansk operation," Sergeant Arsenty Krishtal was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2223 [1] .
On March 3, 1943, Cristal was seriously injured, after which he was sent to a hospital and never returned to the front. He returned to Chemuzhovka, worked first on a collective farm, then in a restaurant at the Kharkov-Passenger railway station. He died on December 19, 1977, was buried in Chemuzhovka [1] .
Honorary Citizen of Alekseyevka . He was also awarded a number of medals [1] .
