Creation History
The idea of creating a festival that was dedicated only to unacceptable ideas and concepts appeared in the branding agency Punk You Brands . According to the idea of the organizers, [1] it was decided to accept only those works that were made for fictitious customers, or for real ones, but not ordered or not accepted by them.
This distinguishes the festival from traditional advertising festivals, where participants are disqualified for not accepted and / or unordered concepts.
Timeline by Years
2011
For the first time, Fakstival was held in 2011 and was a completely virtual event, awards were sent to winners by mail [1] .
The fake festival jury 2011 included: Vitaly Bykov, Creative Director of Red Keds; Daniil Sergeyev, Creative Director and Managing Partner, FIRMA; Evgeny Primachenko, Deputy Creative Director of RA "Voskhod"; Igor Ganzha, director of LMH consulting, vice president of RO IAA; Dmitry Peryshkov, director of Direct Design; Roman Kirichenko, creative director of branding agency Clever; Alexey Shelepov, art director of Altapress Publishing House; Ksenia Lukicheva, editor of Bright Side. [3]
Of the 227 works that were created without the knowledge of advertisers or were ultimately rejected by them, only 36 were shortlisted. Interestingly, not one finalist appeared in the Audio and Video categories. [4] [5]
Nobody received the main award, since not a single work scored the minimum required for receiving the Grand Prix in three votes. The first place in the “Prints” category was won by the print of a shoe box made in the reverse perspective technique of a corner poster, and a special prize from the organizers was awarded to a series of comic beer stickers called “Clay and Drink”. [2]
2012
The festival went beyond the Internet for the first time, educational and solemn events were held in the Altai Republic , on the banks of the Katun River. [6]
The composition of the jury slightly changed compared to last year: among the new members of the jury were Andrei Gubaidullin, creative director of RA Voskhod; Kirill Konstantinov, creative director of the branding agency KIAN; Leonid Feigin, Creative Director of Direct Design Visual Branding.
In 2012, two works won the Grand Prix at once: a series of commercials “Because you are fucked up” - advertising various goods and services, from beer to food delivery, united by one slogan. The prize in the form of an elk plywood head was received by Maxim Sidorenya. The second grand prix went to Alexandra Istratova for the concept of soft packaging for mashed potatoes and desserts. The designer developed a series of packages in the form of faces and faces of animals, in which the mouth was located at the place of the drinking hole.
Gold for print advertising went to the Raid poster (Alexander Ilyinov, author Stanislav Stroganov), made in the style of Western, only with the participation of cockroaches, he also received a special prize Epic Fake from the organizers of the festival. The audience’s prize, as well as the gold in the “Advertising Campaign” category, was won by the draft campaign for Burton: the manufacturer of the snowboard boards was invited to release a series of ice cream in the form of boards - on some sticks, on the part that was covered with ice cream, it was proposed to place the autograph of the founder of the company and the famous snowboarder Jake Burton [7] .
2013
The third Fakestival was held in Riga ( Latvia ) from August 15 to 18, 2013. One of the largest Russian-language advertising resources ADME.RU included the festival in the calendar of festivals for 2013. [8]
According to Danil Snitko, producer of the festival, the event was decided to be moved to Riga in order to increase the concentration of the creative community among the participants [9] . In addition, holding a festival in Europe was cheaper than in Russia [10] .
The nominations remained the same: print advertising, advertising campaigns, identity, packaging, video, digital, subject design.
The international jury included: Maxim Lazebnik (All-Ukrainian Advertising Coalition); Andrey Gubaidullin (Sunrise); Vasily Lebedev (Red Keds); Leonid Feigin (Direct Design Visual Branding); Ksenia Lukicheva (Bright Side); Benjamin Beniman (Clöver); Anton Ryabtsev (KIAN); Pavel Sobek (EURO RSCG Prague); Umberto Giraudo (British Higher School of Design); Andrey Musin (Ogilvy) and Alexander Kirikov (GLOBAL POINT). There was also an online jury, with a separate composition for each nomination, which remained the same compared to 2012: print advertising, advertising campaigns, identity , packaging, video, digital and subject design [11] .
The Grand Prix was awarded to Alexander Bozhko ( Ukraine ) for a print with the Brazilian Christ the Redeemer and American Freedom . According to the jury [12] , "this was largely due to public outcry, which showed the power of advertising in general and the power of fakes in particular."
2014
Fakestival in 2014, according to the original plan of the organizers [13] , was to be held in Kiev ( Ukraine ). But due to the unstable political situation in the neighboring country, the event changed the format somewhat - it was again held online, as it was several years ago.
This time, Russian and foreign experts were also involved in the selection of winners [14] , including: Anna Mukhina (Muhina Design), Andrey Tarakanov (Tomatdesign), David Low (SomeOne), Arnie Aroma (Pentagon Design), Timur Salikhov (FIRMA) , Igor M. Namakonov (MOST Creative Club), Lisa Surganova (Forbes Russia), Evgeny Smurygina (BusinessFM) and other industry experts.
The Grand Prix of the festival was awarded to the Wow digital agency. This is the concept of the advertising campaign for the television series Game of Thrones , which appears on HBO . He won the “Print Advertising” nomination. The second place was given to the work of Fyodor Zakharenko for Yandex.Music, and the third was Irina Smolikova with the idea for Crocs shoes [15] .
Prizes
As prizes of the festival, plywood elk heads, greeting cards and training certificates are used. The idea with the plywood award beat the idea of the festival itself [16] . In 2014, winners received Apple equipment as prizes.
