Ship Description
One of three 84-gun ships of the Empress Maria type, built in Nikolaev according to the drawings of Admiral A. S. Greig . Despite the fact that they belonged to 84-gun ships, they had a larger number of guns [1] .
The ship was named after the wife of Paul I Empress Maria Fedorovna [2] .
Service History
The ship "Empress Maria" was laid down was laid down in Nikolaev in 1826 and, after launching on October 17, 1827, became part of the Black Sea Fleet .
He took part in the Russian-Turkish war . On August 24, 1828, he joined the fleet at Varna, bringing 920 soldiers and officers there from Nikolaev. On September 3, negotiations took place between Admiral A. S. Greig and Kapudan Pasha [2] on the ship, at which Kapudan Pasha refused to surrender the fortress. On September 4 and 5, the ship took part in the bombing of the fortress.
On October 2, he left Varna with Emperor Nicholas I on board. On the way to Russia, I fell into a severe storm and suffered serious damage - the ship had broken for-posts , main and brah-posts, harnesser , bomb-harnesser . By October 8, the ship reached Odessa , bringing the emperor there, and then went to Sevastopol . January 17, 1829 he returned to Varna at the head of a detachment under the flag of Rear Admiral I.I. Stozhevsky .
On February 15, the squadron delivered troops to Sisopol . He took part in the suppression of coastal batteries, after which the fortress capitulated. On March 11, as part of a detachment, he approached the Akhiollo fortress, but due to shallows he could not go ashore for bombardment and was forced to return to Sisopol due to weather conditions. In March 1829, together with the battleship " Parmen " delivered troops from Varna to Sisopol. March 28, took part in repelling an attack by Turkish troops on Sisopol, conducting artillery fire on the enemy.
From April to June 1829, as part of the squadron A. S. Greig three times went to the Bosphorus . In July 1829 he transported the sick and wounded to Sevastopol , and the troops returned to Sisopol on the return flight. In the same year, as part of a squadron, he cruised in the Sizopol - Bosphorus - Inada - Midia - Bosphorus - Sisopol area. And by October 17 he returned to Sevastopol.
In 1830, he joined the squadron of Rear Admiral M.N. Kumani , as part of which he transported troops from the ports of Rumelia to Russia. In 1833 he took part in the Black Sea Fleet expedition to the Bosphorus .
On March 6, at the head of a detachment under the flag of Rear Admiral M.N. Kumani, he came from Sevastopol to Odessa, where he received troops on board and by March 24 brought them to Buyuk-dere. On June 28, the squadron, which included the Empress Maria, took the troops on board and delivered to Feodosia, and by July 22 returned to Sevastopol .
In 1834, the ship underwent timber . As part of the squadron, he went on practical voyages to the Black Sea in 1834-1840.
In March-April 1837 he took part in the delivery of troops of the 13th Division from Odessa to Sevastopol as part of a squadron.
In 1843, the ship "Empress Maria" was converted into a blockchain [1] .
