Prince Albrecht acquired a plot of land here when he retired from Berlin to Saxony, despite the opposition of the Prussian court combined with a morganatic marriage with Rosalia von Rauch , the court lady of his first wife, Marianna Oranskoy-Nassau .

Since 1943, the cellars of the castle served as a shelter during the bombing of pupils of children's homes in Dresden. After the war in Albrechtsberg, as in other Elbe castles, units of the Red Army were stationed. In 1948, the Intourist Hotel was opened in the castle, bought from the city by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR .
