Biography
Born May 15, 1864 in Veles in Macedonia , in a merchant family. He received his primary education in his hometown, where he graduated from a three-year school. In 1878, to continue his education, he came to Russia and entered the 2nd grade of the Nikolaev gymnasium.
In September 1882 he entered the First Kharkov Gymnasium ; at the end of it in 1884 he entered the historical and philological faculty of Kharkov University , where he listened to the lectures of M. S. Drinov and A. A. Potebni .
After the start of the Serbian-Bulgarian war in 1886, he left for Sofia to enter the student legion. In 1888 he graduated from the course at Kharkov University and left for Macedonia. In the same year he entered the Bulgarian language teacher at the gymnasium of St. Cyril and Methodius in Soluni. In 1889 he received a Ph.D. In 1890 he moved to Vienna, where he attended lectures at Meringer and worked in the Slavic seminary of I.V. Yagich ; the next year was in Leipzig.
In 1892 he returned to Bulgaria. In Sofia, Matov got a place as a teacher of the Bulgarian language in a male gymnasium. From 1892 to 1895, together with Ivan Shishmanov, was the editor of the Collection of Folklore, Science, and Literature.
He died on September 15, 1896 .
