Biography

Born on June 24, 1925 in the Mikhailovka farm, Volodarsky district , Mariupol district , Ukrainian SSR in a working class family. Ukrainian. He graduated from 7 classes.

In the Red Army since 1943. Member of the Great Patriotic War since 1943. He fought on the 1st Baltic Front. He distinguished himself on October 11, 1944 near the city of Šilutė ( Lithuanian SSR ).

On the approaches to the Neman, the enemy resisted, pulling up more and more reserves, and often turned into counterattacks. On October 11, 1944, a difficult situation was created near the city of Šilutė. The Nazis accumulated considerable strength and prepared to strike at the Soviet flank in order to improve their position. With his calculation, the grave began secretly crossing the lake to an advantageous position, which he successfully occupied and launched heavy fire on the enemy. The fascists were confused, and when they orientated, they returned a strong mortar and machine-gun fire. Then, under his cover, they threw infantry to the company. The machine gunner was seriously injured. Then he was replaced by the second number and continued shelling the attackers. When he died, an ammunition carrier took up the machine gun, but he was also killed. Now Commander Mogilny himself opened fire from it. Having received two wounds, the machine gunner began to beat intermittently. The Nazis felt superiority, ran to the skyscraper at full height, but suddenly Mogilny deployed his weapon and met the attackers closely.

When Soviet reinforcements arrived, all the slopes of the skyscraper were dotted with enemy corpses. Sergeant Mogilny was lying unconscious here. The comrades in arms gave the fallen guardsman the honored military honors. He was buried in the city of Šilutė (Lithuania).

Rewards

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary fulfillment of the combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, the guards sergeant Mogilny Mikhail Pavlovich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
