Career

Club

Janos Biri began his career as a football player at the Kishpest club. In 1925–27 he played 35 matches [1] in the Italian Championship for Padova . From 1927 to 1933 he played in Hungarian clubs, after which he moved to the Portuguese championship . He completed his career at Boavista in 1935.

Team

Janos Biri made his debut in the Hungarian national team on September 23, 1923 in a friendly match with the Austrians . In total, the goalkeeper played 5 matches for the national team, including 2 in the framework of the 1924 Olympics . The last time Biri played for the national team was on October 7, 1928 in a match with the Austrian team [2] .

Coaching

The entire coaching career of Janos Biri took place in Portugal. In the years 1939-1947, Janos Biri was the head coach of Benfica . During this time, the club three times became the champion of Portugal and won the national cup as many times. In the 1939/40 season, Benfica, having won the cup, also became the champion of Lisbon , and three years later combined the victory in the cup with the victory of the national championship, thus making a gold double .

After leaving Benfica, Biri coached various Portuguese clubs until 1966, but did not achieve any significant success with them.
