“Being Mary Jane” is the American television series starring Gabriel Union , created by Mara Brock Akil , who launched on the BET cable channel on July 2, 2013 [1] . The plot focuses on the professionally successful host of her own talk show, Mary Jane Paul, who is trying to combine a career with caring for the family and finding a man who can be with her [2] .

"Being Mary Jane" started on BET on July 2, 2013, as a television movie pilot episode, and the first season started on January 7, 2014 [1] . The pilot episode received praise from critics [3] , and also topped the rating table on the day of the premiere, attracting more than four million viewers [4] [5] [6] . September 12, 2013, before the start of the first season, BET extended the series for the second season [7] , which started on February 3, 2015. On February 5, the channel extended the series for the third season [8] , which started on October 20, 2015. On January 6, 2016, the series was extended for the fourth season, but its creator and showrunner, Mara Brock Akil, will not take an active part in the development of the project [9] .
On October 11, 2017, it was announced that the series would end in 2018 with a two-hour film [10] .
