The following season he visited the Pan American Games in Caracas, and added another gold medal to his track record. He was supposed to represent the country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, but Cuba boycotted these competitions, and instead Orta took part in the tournament of the countries of the socialist camp " Friendship-84 ", where he won another gold.
