The area of the lake is 2.44 km², the length of the coastline is 11.6 km. The catchment area is 52 [3] km². Altitude - 205.6 m. [4]
An assessment of the degree of development of the coastline S (the minimum value S = 1 - characterizes a completely round lake) indicates an average indentation of the coastline: S = 2.1 units. The maximum length of the lake is 2.4 km, the average depth is 4.3 m, and the maximum depth is 9.4 m. The high depth of the lake may indicate a significant role of karst rocks (widespread in this landscape) in the appearance and development of the studied reservoir. [5]
By origin, Vyalgozero belongs to glacial lakes. This type of lake is predominant in the east of the Leningrad region.
