Biography
In 1951 he graduated from the Kazakh State University. In 1956, by competition, he was elected assistant professor of the Department of Zoology of the N.K. Krupskaya Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute. Since 1959, the head of this department. He worked here until 1963, after which he submitted a number of appeals to various universities in Ukraine to travel away from the nuclear test site . In 1963, he was elected assistant professor of zoology at the Lugansk Pedagogical Institute. For several years after complex changes in the composition of the department and the early retirement of the department head, Ivan Sakhno headed this department, and with it the Zoological Museum.
He published about 5 methodological manuals on zoological and geographical specialization courses, including the production of scientific manuals on zoogeography, etc. In 2007, he published the monograph “Birds of the Luhansk Region”.
Memory
- On November 23, 2011, the Lugansk National University held a local history conference "Day of the Zoological Museum" dedicated to the 40th anniversary of S. Panchenko's creation of the LNU Zoological Museum exposition in the new university building.
- In the winter of 2011/2012, a memorial corner dedicated to the life and work of Sergey Panchenko was created at the Museum of the History of Lugansk University.
