Coat of arms of Tiraspol is one of the symbols of the city of Tiraspol , the capital of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic . Since 2018, two city emblems have been used: the initial coat of arms (for public demonstration) and the Soviet coat of arms (in document flow). [one]

Russian coat of arms (1847-1978, since 2018)

In 1847, Tiraspol received its first coat of arms, which was approved by the highest rescript of Nicholas I. The emblem of the city consisted of the upper part of the shield, in the golden field, the Kherson emblem, and in the lower, wide, along the black field, fortress wall of red color diagonally passing from the upper right corner, and on both sides of it one, in each, acorn [2 ] .

On September 28, 2018, at the proposal of the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky , during the second plenary meeting of the 12th session of the XXV convocation of the Tiraspol City Council of People's Deputies, he was reinstated as the official coat of arms of the city. [one]

Coat of Arms of 1868

In 1868, a project for the new coat of arms of Tiraspol was created: in a silver shield, a scarlet wall serrated band with silver seams, followed by 2 green acorns in the corners, in the free part of the shield is the coat of arms of the Kherson province, the shield is crowned with a silver tower crown and surrounded by gold ears connected by the Alexander ribbon [ 3] . However, the coat of arms was never approved.

Coat of arms of the Soviet period, approved on March 29, 1978 by a decision of the executive committee of the city Council of People’s Deputies [4] . In the upper part against the background of the fortress wall, in a gold field, the date of foundation of the city "1792" is indicated. In the lower part of the coat of arms diagonally from the upper left to the lower right corner waves of blue color symbolize the Dniester River . In the upper right part on a red background a gear symbolizing the industry of the city is shown in gold. In the lower left part on a green background is a golden image of a bunch of grapes. The colors of the coat of arms red and green are associated with the colors of the flag of the former Moldavian SSR and present-day Transnistria [5] . The author of the current coat of arms is Viktor Leonidovich Vakarev (07.25.1948 - 07.07.2005) [6] .

Coat of arms in numismatics

The Transnistrian Republican Bank twice issued coins from the series “Coats of arms of the cities of Transnistria”. Both times, the coat of arms of the Russian Empire in Tiraspol was depicted on a coin. The first issue was made of silver 925 and dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the founding of the city, and the second edition was made of gold 900 and dedicated to the 215th anniversary of the PMR capital [7] .
