Merkulov, Georgy Alekseevich

Georgy Alekseevich Merkulov (born December 31, 1929 [1] , Rozhdestvenka , Central Black Earth Region [2] ) is a Soviet coal industry worker, miner, foreman of the GROZE mine named after V. I. Lenin of the Kizelugol Production Association of the Perm Region, Hero of Socialist Labor (1971).

Biography

Born in 1929 in Rozhdestvenka (now Timsk district of Kursk region) [2] . At the age of five, his father died, five sons and a daughter remained in the family.

During World War II, the family was in German-occupied territory. After the liberation of his native village from the German invaders to help his mother, George combined his studies at school with work on the collective farm [3] .

After graduating from high school , in 1948, he worked in the city of Kizel in the Perm Region at the Volodarsky mine, and since 1963, at the V. I. Lenin mine. He mastered the profession of a bulk picker, a logging machine driver, a slaughterer, and for many years led a mining harvester brigade, proving himself a skilled foreman. He was a mentor to young miners.

In addition to production, he was engaged in social activities. As a member of the CPSU , he was elected a member of the bureau of the Kizelovsky city party committee, and was a delegate to the 24th party congress . He was a deputy of the Kizelovsky City Council of Workers and chairman of the city Council for Assistance to the Soviet Peace Fund [3] .

After retiring in 1994, he lives in Kizel and continues to engage in community service.

Rewards

  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 30, 1971, Merkulov Georgy Alekseevich was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal "Hammer and Sickle."
  • He was also awarded another Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor [4] and medals, including “For Labor Valor”, “For Valiant Labor”.
  • Honored Miner of the RSFSR , Chevalier of the Miner Glory badge of three degrees.
  • Honorary Citizen of Perm Region and the city of Kizel (2011). [five]
