He arrived in Vorkuta in November 1953 , went to work at mine No. 40 (now Vorkutinskaya mine ), where he spent all 34 years of his career in the coal industry. He started as an assistant combine operator, worked as a foreman of tunnels until 1972 , then as an underground electrician of the service of the chief mechanic. The team of drifters V. A. Kuzmina was widely known at the Vorkutaugol plant . He and his comrades made many valuable rationalization proposals for the use of new mining and tunneling equipment coming to the Vorkuta mines. The drifters were especially distinguished when holding a high-speed deepening of the shaft without stopping the mine, which made it possible to achieve high rates in the 8th five-year plan.
In 1971, for outstanding success in completing the tasks of the five-year plan and achieving high technical and economic indicators, he was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the medal “For Valiant Labor. In commemoration of the centenary of the birth of V. I. Lenin. " The full gentleman of "Miner's Glory", honored innovator of the Komi ASSR.
