Biography

Born in 1902 in the village of Lubnitsa (now the Valdai district , Novgorod region ) in a peasant family. Russian. In 1920, after graduating from high school in Staraya Russa, he entered the Petrograd Mining Institute .

In 1924-1925, having temporarily left his studies, he worked at Volkhovstroi, on the Leningrad city railway. In 1925-1926 he served in the Red Army .

After demobilization, he returned to study at the Mining Institute, which he successfully graduated in 1929. He was sent to work in Donbass , where he worked in the mines of the Dzerzhinskugol and Artyomugol trusts as the head of ventilation, the head of mechanization, the chief mechanic and the chief engineer of the mine. Then he is appointed chief engineer of these trusts and is actively involved in the development of mines in the Central region of Donbass until 1941.

With the outbreak of war, he had to participate in the destruction of enterprises. In 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army, but was soon recalled to the People's Commissariat of the coal industry and was appointed head of the production and technical department of the Molotovugol plant. Soon received a new appointment as chief engineer of the Stalinugol Trust ( Gubakha ). He was engaged in increasing coal production in the Kizelovsky basin and by the end of the war became the chief engineer - deputy chief of the Molotovugol plant.

In May 1945 he returned to Donbass . He was appointed chief engineer of the Artyomugol plant. He invested enormous work in restoring the basin-destroyed coal industry. During the post-war period, under the leadership of N. A. Zaitsev, the mines of the Central region of Donbass were greatly developed. Reconstruction was carried out at the mines with an increase in the productivity of lifting installations, improvement of ventilation schemes and preparation of new horizons, including those with seams hazardous for sudden emissions of coal and gas. Great work has been done in the field of mechanization of labor and increasing the level of safety.

In 1946 he was transferred to the post of head of the Donetskugol plant, in 1947 he was appointed head of the Artyomugol plant.

In 1951 he defended his thesis and became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR . He conducted research work in the field of finding rational schemes for the development of steep fall gas mines in the Central region of Donbass, subject to sudden emissions of coal and gas, as the head of work at the Institute of Mining, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1953, it was decided to combine the Artyomugol and Donetskugol combines, and N. A Zaitseva was appointed chief engineer of the new association. However, in the same year he suffered a serious heart disease. As a result of this, he transferred to work as the director of the Donetsk Research Coal Institute. His collaboration with the Institute of Mining of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR continued. In 1955, he was elected by competition to the post of head of the department "Development of mineral deposits" of the Mining Department of the KPI .

At the same time, at the invitation of the Minister L. G. Melnikov, he joined the Ministry of Construction of the USSR Coal Industry Enterprises as Deputy Minister. From that time he lived and worked in Moscow.

In his new position, he is engaged in the construction of new mines in many regions of the country, and especially in Kuzbass . Participated in the aftermath of severe accidents caused by sudden emissions of coal and gas in the Karaganda and Pechora basins.

In connection with the liquidation of ministries and the reorganization of industry management, he was transferred to work in the Gosplan of the RSFSR, was appointed head of the coal, peat and shale industry - a member of the collegium of the Gosplan. The department actually performed the functions of the branch republican ministry.

In 1960, he completely switched to work at the I. A. Skochinsky IGDAN . Here, at first, he headed the laboratory of the organization of mining, and shortly before his death, the Institute's largest department of technology and mechanization of underground coal mining.

Since 1960, N. A. Zaitsev worked concurrently as chairman of the Central Commission for the Control of Silicosis. Within the framework of this commission, a number of research projects were carried out that played a significant role in the prevention of this occupational disease of miners.

He was a member of the mining section of the Committee on Lenin Prizes in Science and Technology, a member of the Academic Council of the IGDAN named after A. A. Skochinsky , a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Committee on the Fuel Industry at the USSR State Planning Commission, and a member of the editorial board of the Master of Coal magazine.

He died on September 21, 1965 . He was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy cemetery (plot number 6).
