Aleksei Nikolaevich Ovchinin (born September 28, 1971 , Rybinsk ) is a Russian cosmonaut- test cosmonaut of the Russian Space Agency . The 120th cosmonaut of the USSR / Russia and the 547th cosmonaut of the world. Hero of the Russian Federation , pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation . Lieutenant Colonel Stock.

The first space flight was made on the Soyuz TMA-20M transport manned spacecraft (TPK) in March-September 2016 to the International Space Station . Member of the main space expeditions ISS-47 / ISS-48 . The flight duration was 172 days 03 hours 47 minutes 15 seconds.
The second flight was made on October 11, 2018 as the crew commander of the Soyuz MS-10 TPK. During the flight, the Soyuz-FG launch vehicle crashed, after which an emergency rescue system worked at an altitude of about 90 km , a lander with the crew landed by parachute .
On March 14, 2019, as the crew commander of the Soyuz MS-12 TPK, it launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to the ISS. Continues space flight to the ISS as a flight engineer under the ISS-59 / 60 program.
Content
Early Years, Education
Born September 28, 1971 in Rybinsk , Yaroslavl region in a working family. He graduated from Rybinsk secondary school No. 2 and music school ( piano ) [1] . From the age of 14, he studied at the Rybinsk flying club , studied and piloted the Yak-52 plane [2] [3] .
Military Service
In August 1988 he entered the Borisoglebsk Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots named after V. P. Chkalov [1] [4] , from September 1990 he continued his studies at the Yeisk Higher Military Aviation School named after V. M. Komarov , after which he received the qualification of "pilot engineer" and the military rank of lieutenant [5] .
Since August 1992, he served as an instructor pilot at the Aviation Training Regiment of the Yeisk VVAUL in Bataisk . In February 1998, he was appointed a pilot instructor, and then commander of the aviation link of the training and aviation regiment of the Krasnodar Military Aviation Institute in Kotelnikovo ( Volgograd Region ). He flew on a plane L-39 . Since September 2003, he served as the aviation commander of the 70th Separate Testing Training Aviation Special Purpose Regiment named after V. S. Seregin of the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yu. A. Gagarin [1] .
The total flight time for airplanes is more than 1300 hours. Has the qualification of a pilot instructor of the 2nd class. On July 27, 2012, he was discharged from the Armed Forces to the reserve. Lieutenant Colonel [1] [4] .
In 2012, he entered the faculty of state and municipal administration of the Vladimir branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration [6] .
Space Flight Training
In the summer of 2006, he underwent a medical examination for admission to the cosmonaut team of the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yu. A. Gagarin of the 14th set [7] . On October 11, 2006 he was enlisted as a candidate for cosmonauts. Since February 2007, he took a two-year course of general space training, after which in June 2009 he received the qualification of "test cosmonaut" [8] . During space training, he participated in training for the case of landing of a descent vehicle on water in June 2008 in Sevastopol , in October 2009 he took part in training in a small research module at the Baikonur Cosmodrome [8] .
In 2012-2015, he was trained as the commander of the backup crew of the Soyuz TMA-16M TPK, the launch of which took place on March 27, 2015 [9] .
In September 2013, he participated in the international mission “Caves” in caves on the island of Sardinia ( Italy ), during which five astronauts and astronauts from various space agencies worked under extreme conditions underground [10] [8] .
Since March 2015, he was trained as the commander of the main crew of the Soyuz TMA-20M TPK and the ISS-47/48 space mission flight engineer [8] .
In the fall of 2015, Alexei Ovchinin at the TsPK, along with cosmonaut Oleg Skrypochka, took part in the tasting of various dishes intended for astronauts aboard the ISS. For eight days, the astronauts tasted 160 dishes. For one meal, each astronaut tried about 20 types of dishes, evaluating food on a 9-point scale [11] .
Since June 2017, he was trained as the commander of the backup crew of the Soyuz MS-08 TPK, flight engineer and commander of the space expeditions ISS-55/56 [8] .

First Flight
March 19, 2016 at 0:26 Moscow time Alexey Ovchinin launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome on the Soyuz TMA-20M spacecraft as a crew commander along with flight engineers Oleg Skrypochka and Jeffrey Williams , NASA astronaut. This flight completed the operation of the Soyuz spacecraft TMA-M series, they were replaced by manned spacecraft of the MS series. The ship successfully docked with the ISS to the Search module on the same day. Ovchinin was the flight engineer of the space expeditions ISS-47/48. On September 7, 2016 at 04:14 Moscow time, the Soyuz TMA-20M launch vehicle was landed 147 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan in Kazakhstan . The flight duration was more than 172 days [12] .

October 11, 2018 at 11:40:15 (Moscow time) launched with NASA astronaut Nick Hague on the Soyuz-FG launch vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to the ISS as the crew commander of the Soyuz MS-10 TPK [13] . At the 165th second [14] , a carrier accident was recorded , after which, at an altitude of about 90 km , the emergency rescue system worked normally. The upper part of the head fairing with a household compartment and a descent vehicle was in free suborbital flight for some time. The commander of the ship, Aleksey Ovchinin, reported by radio that they were feeling zero gravity . The spacecraft reached a maximum altitude of 93 km [15] [16] [17] [18] . Then the ship was divided into compartments and a lander with a crew landed by parachute 25 km from the city of Zhezkazgan ( Kazakhstan ) about 400 km from the launch site [19] .

Landing, the astronauts got in touch [21] [22] [23] . During the operation of the emergency rescue system, the astronauts experienced an overload of 6 g [24] . They were transported from the emergency landing site to Zhezkazgan, and after passing a medical examination they were transported to Baikonur. On October 12, 2018, members of the Soyuz MS-10 crew arrived in Star City [25] .

March 14, 2019 at 22:14 (Moscow time), along with NASA astronauts Nick Haig and Christina Cook, launched from the Gagarin launch site of the Baikonur Cosmodrome at Soyuz MS-12 TPK [26] . On March 15, 2019 at 04:02 Moscow time, the ship docked to the docking station of the Rassvet small research module of the ISS Russian segment , at 06:10 Moscow time the crew went aboard the ISS. On board the international space station, Ovchinin serves as flight engineer for the long-term expedition ISS-59 , and from June 2019 he will become commander of the expedition ISS-60 [27] .
On May 29, A.N. Ovchinin, together with astronaut Oleg Kononenko, carried out work in outer space lasting 6 hours 01 minute. The astronauts installed a handrail for the transition between the small research module " Search " and the functional-cargo block " Zarya ", removed from the module "Search" the equipment of the experiment "Test" to study the influence of space flight factors and living on the surface of bacteria on the microdestruction of the shell of the station [28] .
