Life and work

Born in the family of an architect. With his maternal uncle, the poet Philip Kino , in 1681 he came to Paris. Here Cinema puts a young man at the royal court of Versailles and introduces him to the number of visitors to the then fashionable literary salons of the French capital. Here Bofran enters the teachings of the sculptor Francois Girardot , but four years later he passes from him to the architect Jules Arduin-Mansard . In 1709, Beaufrand became a member of the Royal Academy of Architecture. In 1711 he was appointed the first (chief) architect of the Duke of Lorraine. F. Beaufrand was mainly engaged in orders of the aristocracy and the urban bourgeoisie, for which he built estates and houses in Paris (Hotel Lebrun, Hotel Amelo, Hotel de Villar, etc.). From 1709 until 1740 he was also involved in interior design for various Parisian buildings and palaces - for example, the Luxembourg Small Palace, the Grand Arsenal and the Hotel de Subiz . In Lorraine, Beaufrand was entrusted with the reconstruction of the castle of Arue , and then the construction of the palaces of Luneville and La Mulgrange . J. Beaufrand also owns sketches for the Commerce Palace.

J. Beaufrand is also one of theorists of Baroque architecture. In 1743, his work La figure équestre de Louis XIV ... was published, and in 1745, Livre d'Architecture , in which he develops the ideas of aesthetics of architecture in French and Latin and outlines some of his structures.
