Stephan Moses , actually Stefan Moses ( him. Stefan Moses , Fr. Stéphane Mosès , June 11, 1931 , Berlin - December 1, 2007 , Paris ) - French and Israeli philosopher, literary critic, translator of German-Jewish origin.

Biography
From an educated, literary Jewish family close to the socialists (his relative was Edward Bernstein ). In 1937, the family emigrated from Nazism to Morocco , settled in Casablanca , where Stephen graduated from high school. After the war he came to France, graduated from Ecole Normal ( 1954 ) as a Germanist, from 1961 he taught at the Sorbonne . In 1969 he moved to Israel . In 1977, he opened and headed the Department of German Studies at the Hebrew University , in 1990 - the Franz Rosenzweig Institute for Judeo-German Studies. In 1997 he retired, returned to Paris. In 2006, he read an annual course of lectures at the Etienne Gilson Department at the Paris Catholic Institute.
His wife is an artist Lillian Klapish, the son is a writer, a translator from Hebrew, German and English Emmanuel Moz , a daughter is a writer Anush Sherman and an artist Sonya Moz.
Interests
Moses’s research interests focus on the figures and legacy of Franz Rosenzweig, Freud , Kafka , Walter Benjamin (Moses’s attention was drawn to him by Gershom Scholem ), Levinas , Hannah Arendt , Edmond Jabez , Paul Celan .
