Yoriten

Ioriten ( 庵 点 点 ) [1] , 〽 is a Japanese punctuation mark used to mark the beginning of a party in traditional poetry as well. In Unicode it has the code U + 303D, and in the JIS X 0213 standard it is 1-3-28. The shape of the sign is an inclined line with two “peaks”; there is evidence of the existence of a variant with one “peak” called “gatten” ( Japanese 合 点 ) [2] [3] .

Ioriten has been used since at least the Meiji period . Despite its widespread use in poetry, Ioritene was not included in the JIS X 0208 standard , and instead of it, a note sign “♪” that got into JIS X 0208 was usually placed on the Internet and mobile mail. Another popular substitute is the opening angle bracket “「 ”.

Among emojis there is also an image of an iorite - it is often mistaken by non-Japanese users for the McDonalds sign [4] .
