Biography
Mikhail Kravchenko was born in 1914 in the village of Golovchino (now - Greyvoronsky district of the Belgorod region ). He graduated from a village school, after which he worked as a tractor driver at a state farm . In March 1943, Kravchenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II. By June 1944, the Red Army guard Mikhail Kravchenko was a shooter of the guards separate training infantry battalion of the 67th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
On June 24, 1944, Kravchenko, being part of a group of machine gunners, was among the first to cross the Western Dvina in the village of Uzrechye in the Beshenkovichi district and took an active part in the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. In those battles, Kravchenko personally destroyed several enemy soldiers and officers, was seriously wounded, but remained in service, having died in battle. He was buried in the village of Kleshchino, Beshenkovichi district [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, the Red Army soldier Mikhail Kravchenko was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
