Sholaksay ( Kazakh. Sholaқsay ) is a village in the Naurzum district of the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan . The administrative center and the only settlement of the Sholaksaysky rural district. The KATO code is 395857100 [1] .

History
The village was founded in 1897 and until 1957 was called Chulak-Sai . Translated from Kazakh, the name of the village means "short yard, ravine." At the end of the 19th century, Kazakhs of the Bainazar clan of the Argyn tribe lived and wandered in this area. In 1906, with the beginning of the Stolypin reform , migrant peasants from the Astrakhan , Voronezh , Kursk , Ryazan provinces, from the Don and Kuban began to arrive here. In 1908, 92 families (778 people) lived in the village. They were engaged in the cultivation of wheat, oats and flax, breeding Kalmyk cattle and sheep of the Merino breed [2] .
Population
In 1999, the village population was 1791 people (874 men and 917 women) [3] . According to the 2009 census , 1780 people lived in the village (861 men and 919 women) [3] .
