It comes from the registered Cossack Korchovsky hundreds of Korsun regiment Andrei (1649). The nobility was the first to receive his great-grandson Nikita in the 18th century.
According to family legend, Nikita Alekseevich, a regimental esaul, bore the surname Uzh and served as a forester in the Bialowieza Forest, under the King of Poland, Vladislav IV. He managed to save the life of the king on the hunt by killing a bear rushing at Vladislav. Then Nikita Alekseevich hosted the king in his house and treated him to mandrakes (special pastries), which the king really liked. For saving his life, Vladislav awarded Nikita Alekseevich Count's dignity and estate in the Chernigov province - the town of Kobyshchi . Fleeing from the Jesuits, demanding the adoption of a union, Nikita Alekseevich moved to Kobyshchi. Here he and his eldest son Jacob used the coat of arms granted by Vladislav, but they had to discard the count dignity in order to stay in Orthodoxy and simply signed Mandryka [1] .
One of the last representatives of the clan became the grandmother of actress Svetlana Nemolyaeva [2] .
