Biography
Ivan Kochnev was born on September 15, 1921 in the village of Nikolaevsky Baran (now - Alekseevsky district of Tatarstan ). After finishing four classes of the school, he worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm . In April 1941, Kochnev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By August 1944, Senior Sergeant Ivan Kochnev commanded the guns of the 995th Infantry Regiment of the 263rd Infantry Division of the 2nd Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself in battles in the territory of the Lithuanian SSR [1] .
In the battles of August 16-19 , 1944, Kochnev’s crew destroyed 4 tanks , 1 assault gun, 5 armored personnel carriers and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers and his other military equipment [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, senior sergeant Ivan Kochnev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Kochnev was demobilized. He returned to his native village. He was the chairman of the local village council. He died suddenly on February 8, 1958 [1] .
He was also awarded the Orders of Glory of the 2nd and 3rd degrees and a number of medals [1] .
Memory
- A memorial plaque in memory of Kochnev was erected by the Russian Military Historical Society on the school building of the village of Arbuzov, Baran, Alekseevsky district, where he studied.
