Biography
Nikolay Kochetkov was born on May 4, 1918 in the village of Maly Sapozhok [1] . After graduating from a rural school, he worked on a collective farm . In September 1938, Kochetkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the regimental school. Demobilized, he continued to work on the collective farm. In June 1941, he was again drafted into the army. Since July of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was surrounded and captured, but soon managed to escape. After checking, he returned to the front. By September 1943, Senior Sergeant Nikolai Kochetkov commanded a mortar platoon of the 7th Infantry Company of the 615th Infantry Regiment of the 167th Infantry Division of the 38th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [2] .
On September 26, 1943, Kochetkov was one of the first in his unit to cross the Dnieper in the Vyshgorod area and took an active part in the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. Conducting mortar shelling of the enemy, Kochetkov inflicted heavy losses on him. Having managed to capture the enemy mortar, he continued to fire from it. As a result of the actions of the platoon Kochetkov in just three days of fighting, more than 120 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed. On October 19, 1943, Kochetkov was seriously wounded and contused, after which he was sent to the hospital [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments at the front of the fight against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism", Senior Sergeant Nikolai Kochetkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 2788 [2] .
After the war, Kochetkov was demobilized. He returned to Maly Sapozhok, worked in various business positions. He died on July 18, 1988, was buried in the Small Boot [2] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [2] .
