Sleepy Hollow is an American mystical adventure television series, a modernized adaptation of the legend of Sleepy Hollow , written by Washington Irving . The series was created by Alex Kurtzman , Roberto Orsi , Phillip Iskova and Len Wiseman . The premiere took place on September 16, 2013 on Fox .

On May 9, 2017, the series was officially closed after four seasons [1] .

Story

After the death of Ikabod Crane ( Tom Mison ) in one of the battles in the war of independence on the side of the forces of General George Washington , Ikabod rises from oblivion in the place Sleepy Hollow, New York State. At the same time, a headless horseman, whose head Ikabod Crane cut off before his own death, rises from the dead. The headless horseman begins to kill people, and the main character must stop him, acting together with police lieutenant Abby Mills ( Nicole Behari ).

Abby goes to the headless horseman after killing the sheriff ( Clancy Brown ). Investigative measures lead to an old investigation, which examined the case of two occult groups, one on the side of the forces of good, the other on the side of the forces of evil.

A group worshiping evil has brought a headless horseman into our world. If it is not stopped, dark forces will conquer the Earth. The situation is complicated by the fact that the headless horseman has learned to wield modern weapons. Production

The pilot episode was filmed in Salisbury , North Carolina. [2] The rest of the first season was filmed in Wilmington , North Carolina. Filming began in early July 2013.

October 3, 2013, after the release of only three episodes, the channel extended the series for the second season [3] . The second season, which was shown from September 22, 2014 to February 23, 2015, suffered due to an unsuccessful creative direction and the subsequent massive decline in ratings.

On March 18, 2015, the channel extended the series for the third season of 18 episodes with a show runner change [4] , which was shown from October 1, 2015 to April 8, 2016. On May 13, 2016 Fox extended the series for the fourth season [5] .

On May 9, 2017, Fox closed the series, and television representatives said the fourth season of Sleepy Hollow was the last [6] .
