Historical Information

Before the revolution, there was a chapel on St. Nicholas Island in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker . On the islands there lived servants of the Ivanovo Sights and the lighthouse. The islands have traditionally served as a place to prepare firewood for the needs of the city of Petrozavodsk [1] .

October 2, 1911 near the Ivanovo Islands crashed and sank the ship of the Onega shipping company "Svir" . Thanks to the help of the fishermen who were on the islands, all passengers were transported to the islands and thereby saved. [2] Subsequently, the steamer was lifted, but was not restored, the car was transferred to the new Susanin steamer .

During the Civil War , defensive fortifications were opened on the island in case of an attack on the city of whites . The forces of the 47th battalion of military construction on the islands built an artillery battery for the needs of the Onega military flotilla [3] , which was mothballed after the disbandment of the flotilla. To monitor enemy ships, the Ivanovo lighthouse was connected by telephone line to Petrozavodsk. [four]

In the 1920s, members of the Petrozavodsk sports community traveled to the island with excursions. [five]

Around the Ivanovo Islands on June 11, 1927, a sailing yacht crashed. Killed Spartak Sergei Bryakhmin. Athletes went to the yachtsmen of Leningrad, survived Y. Roskin, N. Leichinsky, B. Andreev, A. Vasiliev. The yacht capsized on its side and sank [6] .

In the initial period of the Great Patriotic War, near the Ivanovo Islands, there was a line of evacuation of the inhabitants of Petrozavodsk, who were taken by water to the cities of Pudozh and Vytegra . On September 27, 1941, from the village of Derevyannoe, the Finnish army launched an artillery attack on barge No. 485, on board of which were evacuated civilian refugees. As a result of the blow, the barge sank. The crew of the Kingisepp towed a barge was able to save 78 out of 119 passengers.

During the Finnish occupation, the islands were a fortified area for the city of Petrozavodsk , Ivanovo Island at the time of the occupation was called Lukkosaari. On the territory of the islands, bunkers , remnants of anti-aircraft installations and other defenses are still preserved.

In 1960, the Onega technical site replaced the wooden lighthouse with a new metal lighthouse 25 meters high. An acetylene lamp was originally installed on the lighthouse, subsequently light began to be produced by an electric lamp, which received electricity from a small power plant installed on the island. [7]

In August 1960, the Ivanovo Islands suffered damage as a result of a collision with an underwater reef and sank the Ladoga passenger ship . None of the 253 passengers were injured, in the same year the ship was raised and repaired. [eight]
