Biography
Henry Sutherland Edwards was born in 1828 in the capital of the British Empire , London . He first studied in his hometown, then improved his knowledge in France .
In 1856, he attended the coronation of Emperor Alexander II of Russia, after which his book “ The Russians at home ” (published 1858 and 1879) [1] appeared .
Again, on instructions from the Times , he visited the Russian empire to study the process of peasant reform in Russia and fermentation in Poland . The result of his observations was a series of articles entitled " The Polish captivity " (1862) [1] .
Henry Sutherland Edwards was a direct witness to many outstanding events of the January Polish uprising , which he portrayed in The Polish History Insurrection (1864) after he was expelled from Warsaw and returned to England via St. Petersburg , Kiev and Galicia [1 ] .
During the Franco-Prussian War, Edwards was at the headquarters of King William the First ; He set forth his observations in the book The Germans in France (1874) [1] .
The Bosnian-Herzegovina uprising against the Ottoman Empire began in 1875 in Nevesinje and soon spread throughout the country by Edwards in his book The Slavonian provinces of Turkey (1876) [1] .
Henry Sutherland Edwards passed away in 1906.
