Jeremy Bernard Corbyn ( born Jeremy Bernard Corbyn , born May 26, 1949 ) is a British politician, leader of the Labor Party and the opposition since 2015, and a member of the British Parliament since 1983 . Left democratic socialist in views.

Political career
He was elected to the City Council of the London Haringi District (1974-1983). In 1983, he was elected to the British Parliament from Islington North Greater London and joined the Socialist Campaign group (the leftmost Labor Party). He was re-elected seven times in a row in his constituency, gaining at least 50% of the vote. In general, in this smallest constituency in the UK (735 hectares), Labor has always been victorious since 1937.
Since 2005, he voted against the decisions of his party faction 238 times (25%) [1] , which makes him one of the most “rebellious” Labor parliamentarians, along with only Kate Hoy .
Labor Leader
September 12, 2015 was elected leader of the Labor Party of Great Britain , gaining about 60% in intra-party elections [2] . Since Labor is the largest opposition party in the House of Commons , Corbin has become the official opposition leader .
On June 28, 2016, against the backdrop of the results of the referendum on Britain's withdrawal from the European Union and the mass dismissal of members of the Labor shadow cabinet , 172 Labor MPs voted in favor of a vote of no confidence in Corbin (40 deputies spoke out in his support) [3] . On the same day, British Prime Minister David Cameron appealed to Corbin in Parliament with a request “for heaven’s sake” to resign [4] [5] . However, in the September 24, 2016 election of the leader of the Labor Party, Corbin won again in the first round, even improving his result to 61.8% - his opponent Owen Smith received 38.2%.
In the 2017 parliamentary elections, the Laborites under the leadership of Korbin, although they could not win, but improved their result compared to the previous elections by 9.5% of the total number of votes (up to 40%) and 30 seats (up to 262).
Political Opinions
He is considered one of the leftmost members of the Labor Party and is a member of en: Socialist Campaign Group (a group of left-wing Labor in parliament). Leads a weekly column at The Morning Star .
He is a long-time supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (he advocates unilateral nuclear disarmament). It stands for the dissolution of NATO. Expressed sympathy for the politics of Hugo Chavez [6] [7] .
He acted as a categorical opponent of the war in Iraq at many anti-war rallies in the UK and abroad. He was elected a member of the steering committee of Stop the War . On October 31, 2006, Corbin became one of 12 Labor MPs who supported the initiative of the Party of Wales and the Scottish National Party to investigate the causes of the Iraq war. [8] In 2011-2015, he led the Stop the War coalition.
Campaigns
He is a long-time supporter of the unification of Ireland, and back in 1984 he invited leader Sinn Fein Jerry Adams to London [9] [10] .
He is a prominent member of Amnesty International . He campaigned for bringing to trial the former Chilean dictator Pinochet .
According to a BBC article, Corbin, along with John McDonnell, signed a petition calling on Britain to legalize the Tigers of the Liberation of Tamil Eelam , which the European Union declared terrorist [11] .
In 2013, he attended a conference in London organized by the Argentinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling for a dialogue between Britain and Argentina on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) .
In 2013, he supported the rights of Dalits ( untouchables ). According to the Indian Express newspaper, caste prejudice “is exported to the UK through the Indian diaspora. The same relationship of excellence, pollution, and isolation seems to be present in communities from South Asia currently residing in the UK. ” [12]
As a member of parliament, supported by UNISON.
He is an anti-fascist and opposes the British National Party [13] [14] .
Personal life
He is the younger brother of , a renowned British opponent of global warming theory.
He was married three times, last married in 2013 to Laura Alvarez. He has three sons. Lives in the Finsbury Park area. Previously, he lived on Lausanne Road in the Harringay neighborhood, where he took an active part in securing the future of a small local park created on the site of a site bombed during World War II .
Corbin does not like to talk about his religious views, considering them to be a deeply personal matter [15] . He says about himself: “I do not spend a lot of money, I live a very normal life. I don’t have a car and I ride a bicycle ” [16] . From the age of 20, Corbin is a staunch vegetarian . He was encouraged to become a vegetarian by working at a pig farm in Jamaica, where he witnessed animal cruelty [17] [18] [19] .
Rewards
In 2001, he was awarded the title “ Beard of the Year ” after saying that his beard is a “form of disagreement” against New Labor [20] .
