Biography
Yegor Kochergin was born on September 6, 1916 in the village of Podberezovo (now the Mtsensk District of the Oryol Region ). After completing seven classes of school, he worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm . In 1938, Kochergin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From June 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the battles on the Don and near Voronezh , the Battle of Kursk . By August 1943, the guard captain Yegor Kochergin was the deputy for political affairs of the commander of the division of the 111th Guards Artillery Regiment of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Sumy and Poltava regions of the Ukrainian SSR [1] .
When at the end of August 1943, three German divisions began an offensive west of Akhtyrka , the regiment of Kochergin was surrounded by the village of Vepryk, Gadyachsky district, Poltava region . On August 27 - 28, Kochergin, having organized the all-round defense of the division, actively participated in repelling enemy counterattacks. At the critical moment of the battle, Kochergin raised the artillerymen to the attack, throwing the enemy away, thus maintaining an important crossing over the Psel River . August 28, 1943 Kochergin died while trying to escape from the environment. Originally buried in Veprika, later reburied in Gadyach [1] .
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 9, 1943, Captain Yegor Kochergin was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the bravery and heroism shown at that time". He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the Red Banner . Forever enrolled in the lists of the personnel of the military unit [1] .
The busts of Kochergin are installed in Mtsensk and Podberezovo, the street is named after him in Mtsensk and Veprik [1] .
