Biography
In 1944 he graduated from school in Riga, studied at the Technical Faculty of the University of Latvia (now Riga Technical University ).
In 1960, he graduated from the Latvian Conservatoire in the class of A. Viliumanis , in 1960 - 1961 he improved at the Sofia Conservatory ( Bulgaria ) with Professor I. Josifov .
From 1960 to 2006 - soloist of the Latvian Opera and Ballet Theater (now the Latvian National Opera ) (Riga).
He sang in many Soviet and foreign opera houses. From 1970 to the 1980s he was a freelance soloist of the Bolshoi Theater ( Moscow ). In the career of about 60 tenor parties.
He performed in concerts, in the repertoire of tenor parts in J. Verdi 's Requiem , V. A. Mozart’s Requiem , G. F. Handel’s “ Messiah ”, M. Zarinsha’s “Mahogany” oratorio, and also in the 9th Symphony L Beethoven et al. [1]
Since 1972 he taught at the vocal department of the Latvian Conservatory (since 1983 - professor).
Karlis Zapins died on September 23, 2015 in Riga . He was buried at the 1st Forest Cemetery .
