Description of the symbolism and history of the coat of arms
The historical emblem of the county town of Myshkin was highly approved on August 31 ( September 11 ) by 1778 by Empress Catherine II along with other emblems of the cities of Yaroslavl governorate (PSZ, 1778, Law No. 14765) [2] [3] . Law No. 14765 in the Complete Collection of Laws of the Russian Empire is dated June 20, 1778, but on the drawings of emblems attached to it, the date of approval of the emblems is indicated on August 31, 1778.
The original description of the coat of arms of the city of Myshkin read:
“Shield in the green field, the shield in two torn; in the silver coat of arms of this Namstnichestvo, in the other part in the scarlet mouse, proving the name of this city. ”
The coat of arms of Myshkin was composed by a fellow of the heraldmeister, college adviser I.I. von Enden.

In 1863, during the Köhne heraldic reform, a draft of the new coat of arms of the county town of Myshkin in the Yaroslavl province was developed (not officially approved):
“In a green shield, a silver shield in drowning, in which there is a black mouse. In the free part of the coat of arms of the Yaroslavl province . The shield is crowned with a silver walled crown and is surrounded by golden ears of corn connected by the Alexander ribbon . ”
In Soviet times, the historical emblem of Myshkin was not used in official documents.
On May 30, 2002, by the Decision of the Assembly of Deputies of the Myshkinsky municipal okrug “On the emblem and flag of the Myshkinsky municipal okrug” No. 17, the emblem and flag of the Myshkinsky municipal okrug (they are also the emblem and flag of the city of Myshkin) were approved [4] .
The emblem of the Myshkinsky municipal district was based on the historical emblem, developed and approved in 1778.
The coat of arms received the following description:
“The French shield (rectangular with a small point below) is filled with green enamel. The center contains a French shield (small shield), divided into two parts: the upper and lower parts of the shield in a ratio of 4: 3. In the upper part, filled with silver enamel (white paint), there is a victorious image of a brown bear with an ax on his left shoulder. The ax is a golden enamel. At the bottom of the scarlet enamel (bright red paint) is a gray mouse. Both figures, when facing the coat of arms, go to the left. Behind the shield of the coat of arms are two golden anchors laid crosswise, with golden oak leaves connected by the Alexander (scarlet) ribbon. The shield is adorned with a golden tower crown with three prongs and crowned with an imperial crown, which, joined together make up one crown. Reproduction of the coat of arms of the Myshkinsky municipal district in a multi-color and simplified black-and-white version without the imperial crown and external frame of the coat of arms, with a tower crown is allowed.
The coat of arms of the Myshkinsky municipal district is simultaneously the coat of arms of the city of Myshkin. ”
It should be noted that in comparison with the historical coat of arms of Myshkin in 1778, the small shield in the coat of arms of the municipal district has grown significantly. If in the historical emblem a small shield occupied one ninth of the main shield, then in the new version it filled the main shield by two-thirds.
After the municipal reform in Russia, the Myshkinsky municipal district ceased to exist. The Myshkinsky municipal district was created, which included the urban settlement of the city of Myshkin.
On December 28, 2006, by the decision of the Assembly of Deputies of the Myshkinsky Municipal District of the Yaroslavl Region, the coat of arms of the former Myshkinsky Municipal District was assigned only to the Myshkinsky Municipal District [5] .
On February 20, 2007, by the decision of the Myshkin Municipal Council of the city settlement, the coat of arms of the city settlement Myshkin was approved, which repeated the coat of arms of the Myshkinsky district in 2006, but did not have ceremonial decorations.
The coat of arms of Myshkin is sometimes depicted only in the form of a small shield, that is, without the main shield of green color, which is a violation of official symbols. For example, in this form, the coat of arms of Myshkin is placed in the composition in the form of a clock from the arms of the cities of the Yaroslavl region above the entrance to the Yaroslavl bus station .
Coats of arms of the Myshkinsky municipal district, the Myshkinsky municipal region and the urban settlement of the city of Myshkin were not entered in the State Heraldry Register .
