Geographical position

The city is located in the central part of the region, at an altitude of 1999 meters above sea ​​level [2] . Debrae Zait is located at a distance of approximately 17 kilometers southeast of the country's capital Addis Ababa . On the territory of the city and in its immediate vicinity there are five crater lakes (Bishoft, Hora, Bishoft Guda, Korift, Cheleklaka).

Population

According to the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia for 2007, the population of the city was 99,928 people, of which 47.89% were men, 52.11% were women. In the confessional composition of the population, 79.75% are followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church ; 13.82% are Protestants ; 4.98% are Muslims [3] .

According to the 1994 census, the population of Debreit was 73,372, of which 47.78% were men and 52.22% were women. In the national composition of the city’s population of that period, 42.86% were representatives of the Amhara people; 39.4% - Oromo ; 8.3% are gurages , 9.44% are representatives of other nationalities. The main languages ​​of communication were Amharic and Oromo [4] .
