Biography
By nationality , Imeretian Georgians . From the noble family Kandelaki [2] , nevertheless, the father is a priest [6] .
Had a home primary education. Worker, "foundry [factory] Apiary" [7] . Member of the RSDLP , later a Menshevik . He became acquainted closely with Joseph Dzhugashvili [1] when he arrived in Batum in late November 1901 [8] . I rented an apartment with him. If Koba Dzhugashvili was called a “teacher of workers”, then Kandelaki was called a “teacher’s assistant” [9] . At the suggestion, Dzhugashvili became the cashier of the underground workers' circle [7] . Together with him and with other Social Democrats, he participated in organizing strikes at the factories of Mantashev (January-February 1902 [7] ) and Rothschild (from February 26, 1902) [8] , and he organized with Stalin the work of a printing house that printed leaflets. March 24, together with I. Dzhugashvili traveled to Tiflis for illegal literature [8] . March 29, Stalin, together with K. Kandelaki went to Kobuleti, where they held a meeting of workers and founded the Social Democratic circle [7] . When interacting with workers, Dzhugashvili tried to stay away, and therefore not all workers knew about him, Kandelaki was constantly in contact with them [8] . On April 5, 1902, they were simultaneously arrested. Kandelaki left prison in mid-September. On August 23, 1903 he was again arrested [1] . In total, by 1907, Kandelaki was in prison for political affairs for a total of 26 months. Kandelaki is the author of memoirs about Stalin, which are stored in the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History (the former archive of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism) [10] , a fragment of which is published in the 1937 book of the Tales of the Old Workers of the Transcaucasus about Great Stalin.
On February 8, 1907, he was elected to the State Duma of the second convocation from the total electors of the Batumi region and Sukhumi district . He was a member of the Social Democratic fraction. He did not take an active part in the activities of the Duma. November 22 - December 1 was on trial in the special presence of the Senate in the process of the Social Democratic faction. Among 11 defendants he was acquitted “by the unprovenness of their guilt” [11] .
He was arrested on January 31, 1933, and on December 29, 1933, he was sentenced to a preliminary detention term under article 58-10 by a triple of OGPU civil security departments under the Central Administrative District. He was released on April 11, 1934 [12] .
Since the report of the arrest in 1937 is given in the “Book of Remembrance of the Republic of Bashkortostan”, it should be assumed that at that time he lived (possibly served a link) in Bashkiria. He worked as a shoemaker-artisan [13] . Arrested on December 5, 1937. On charges of articles 58-10, 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, he was sentenced to death. Shot on January 15, 1938 [3] .
Rehabilitated on April 26, 1989 [3] .
