Biography

He was educated at the Imperial School of Law , and began his service in 1892 through the Ministry of the Interior. In 1909 he was appointed Estonian vice-governor, and in March 1910 he was transferred to the same position in the Simbirsk province.

Acting Vice-Governor Prince A. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov from the very first days, when the malady occurred, realized that the peasantry would not be able to exist until next spring. Even before my return, with his inherent energy and care, he devoted himself entirely to this large and complex business ... He had to do the hard work - checking on the ground in the counties the size of the need and help. In late autumn and in severe frosts, Prince A. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov, risking his health, not leaving the crew, and often on horseback, tirelessly traveled around the province, being an indispensable assistant to me.

In February 1913, he was asked to correct the position of the Saratov governor. Since 1915 - Member of the Council under the Minister of the Interior.

Combined state activities with hunting trips. In the 1890s, he traveled to the remote provinces of Russia, which resulted in the "Album of the Northern Dogs" [1] - a collection of photographs with the classification of breeds, compiled for the first time. He developed the standards of huskies, gave detailed reviews of the exhibitions.

A. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov was a connoisseur of bear hunts, the author of the book “In the wake of the bear”, published in 1900. Bullet constructor for a smooth-bore hunting weapon bearing his name and a mechanical bear’s horn . He published literary stories in the journal “Hunter”. After the revolution, he taught at the S.T.Aksakov Moscow Hunting Courses. In the year of his death, the book “The Bear and the Bear Hunt” was published (Moscow: Book Union, 1927).

In the period from September 10 to 12, 2010, in the Svechinsky district of the Kirov region in the hunting farm "Velikoustye" the First Russian Championship was held among the huskies of a decoy bear and an aviary, dedicated to the memory of Prince A. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov [2] .

1886 - the wife of Prince Andrei Alexandrovich Shirinsky-Shikhmatov.

After the death of her husband, she lived in Moscow. In 1930 she was arrested. After she was released due to the ban on living in large cities, she moved to Vladimir. In 1932 she was arrested again (from February 1932 to April 1932). She was exiled to Tambov with a defeat of three years. At the end of her term in January 1937 she received a passport with the help of Pompolit (Red Cross of Russia). She lived at the expense of the financial support of relatives who lived abroad, but with the outbreak of war in 1941 this support ceased. She became impoverished. She died in 1946. Tambov, the grave is not known.

  4. Maria Andreevna Shirinskaya-Shikhmatova (daughter) 1898-1937, repressed in 1937, shot
  5. Ekaterina Andreevna Shirinskaya-Shikhmatova (daughter) 1904-1937, repressed in 1937, shot
