Hermann Heinrich Döring ( German: Hermann Heinrich Döring (Doöring) SJ [1] , September 13, 1859 , Bocholt , Germany - December 17, 1951 , Pune , India ) - Catholic prelate , missionary, bishop of Pune from September 7, 1907 to 16 July 1921 and from July 14, 1927 to January 15, 1948, the Apostolic Vicar of Hiroshima from May 4, 1923 to July 14, 1927, a member of the Jesuit monastic order .

Biography

Hermann Heinrich Döring was born on September 13, 1854 in the city of Bocholt. In 1877 he graduated from the gymnasium in Münster , after which he studied theology at the universities of Münster and Innsbruck . December 21, 1882 Herman Heinrich Döring was ordained a priest , after which until 1890 he served as chaplain at the Church of St. Margarita in the city of Wadersloh . In 1890 he went to Holland , where he joined the Jesuit novitiate . In 1892 he was sent to the UK , where he served as a priest in the working area of London . In Great Britain, he simultaneously studied theology and philosophy.

In 1895 he was sent on a mission to Bombay. On September 7, 1907, Pope Pius X appointed Herman Heinrich Döring the Bishop of Pune. On December 8, 1907, German Heinrich Döring was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Bombay German Jurgens, accompanied by Bishop of Mangalore Abbondio Cavadini and Bishop of Hyderabad Pierre-Andre Vagano.

Before the outbreak of World War I, German Heinrich Döhring traveled to Rome . During the war, the British authorities forbade him to return to India. While living in Holland, on September 16, 1921, German Heinrich Döring resigned from the post of Bishop of Pune, and on the same day the Holy See appointed him titular Archbishop of Maditus .

On May 4, 1923, Pope Pius XI established the Apostolic Vicariate of Hiroshima in Japan and appointed Herman Heinrich Doering as the first ordinar of this church structure. He held this position until July 14, 1927, when the Holy See again appointed him personal archbishop of Pune. He was bishop of Pune until January 15, 1948, when he resigned. On the same day, German Heinrich Döring was appointed titular archbishop of Anazarbus . On August 24, 1949, German Heinrich Doering ordained Andrei Alexis de Souz, local Indian priest, to be the bishop of Pune.

He lived in Pune until his death. He died on December 17, 1951.
