General Information
Tim is the middle of three children, Phil and Jan Smychekov; his older brother's name is Alec, and his younger sister is Lauren.
The American family has little connection with tennis: only his mother is an employee of a sporting goods store.
Tim started playing tennis at the age of three, when his older brother began to take tennis lessons. American considers hard coating as his favorite coating.
Sports career
Professional performances began in 2006.
That year, he won the first single and double futures . In February 2008, having made his way through qualifications, he made his debut in the ATP tour at the tournament in San Jose . He lost his first meeting there to Mardi Fish 3-6, 4-6. In the same year in Baton Rouge won the first doubles "Challenger" .
In June 2009, she reached the singles finals at the Challenger in Winnetka .
In February 2010, he again managed to play at the ATP tournament in San Jose, breaking through qualifications. In the first round, he lost to Benjamin Becker 4-6, 2-6. Then in March, he made his way to the first tournament of the Masters series in Indian Wells , where he loses to Benjamin Becker . The first victory in the tournament was won by ATP in July of the same year in Los Angeles , where Teymuraz Gabashvili replayed 6-2, 6-3 in the first round match. In the second round, Andy Murray , No. 4 of the world ranking, became his opponent, to whom Smychek lost, having managed to take one set, 1-6, 6-4, 2-6. In August, he made his debut in the tournament of the Grand Slam series of the US Open . In the single player tournament, he lost to Thomas Bellucci in the first round, and in pairs in the second round.
In February 2011, he was able to reach the quarter finals in San Jose, beating Robert Far and Kay Nishikori . In March, he reached the second round of Masters in Indian Wells. In May, he made his debut at the French Open , losing in the first round.
In February 2012, at a tournament in Delray Beach in the first round match he was able to beat tennis player from the Top 20 Jürgen Meltzer 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. In April of that year, the Challenger wins in Tallahassee . At the 2012 US Open, he overcame the barrier of the first round and was able to complete the competition in the second stage. In November, he won another Challenger in Champaign .
In 2013, having qualified, he entered the second round of the Australian Open , beating Ivo Karlovich . In February, at a tournament in San Jose, he won the match against No. 24 Fernando Verdasco . In July, he entered the doubles category and reached the first final at the ATP tournament (in Newport with Raine Williams ). In August 2013 at the US Open, having received a special invitation to the tournament, he was able to reach the third round, where in five sets he lost to Marcel Granollers 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, 3-6, 5-7. After the tournament, for the first time in the ranking, it rises to the first hundred.
In August 2019, he completed his professional career.
