Biography
Ivan Aleksandrovich Radaev was born on February 23, 1913 in a peasant family in the village of Sadovka in the Volsky district of the Saratov province of the Russian Empire (now the village of the Baltai district of the Saratov region of the Russian Federation ). Russian From childhood, he lived with his parents in the village of Novye Burasy of the neighboring Saratov district . He graduated from elementary school, then agricultural college. He worked at the Sturm state farm . In the years 1935-1937, Ivan Alexandrovich served in the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . After demobilization, he returned to work at the state farm. In 1939 he joined the CPSU (b) . Soon after the outbreak of World War II, he was sent to the Lizandergey region [1] , where before serving in the army he worked as the head of the farm at the meat and dairy state farm No. 105.
Once again, I. A. Radaev was drafted into the Red Army by the Krasnokutsk District Military Commissariat of the Saratov Region in the autumn of 1942. He graduated from junior lieutenant courses. In battles with the Nazi invaders, I. A. Radaev from February 27, 1943, as commander of a machine-gun platoon of the 685th Infantry Regiment of the 193rd Infantry Division of the 65th Army of the Central Front . He was baptized in the Sevsk operation in battles near the city of Dmitrovsky-Oryol . Until the summer of 1943, the division was in the second echelon of the 65th Army. On June 15, 1943, units of the division defended directly opposite Sevsk at the Yurasov Khutor line - the mouth of the Stenega River and held these lines during the Battle of Kursk until August 18. By the beginning of the offensive of the Central Front, I. A. Radaev was promoted to lieutenant. Ivan Alexandrovich was especially distinguished during the Chernihiv-Pripyat operation of the Battle of the Dnieper .
On August 26, 1943, the 685th Infantry Regiment crossed the Sev River south of Sevsk, and breaking through the enemy’s defenses on the west bank of the river, went to the southern outskirts of the city. However, the further advance of the infantry was stopped by heavy machine-gun fire, which the enemy fired from a height of 190.1. Having moved with a machine gun to an open position in front of the rifle units, Lieutenant I. A. Radaev destroyed the enemy machine-gun point in return fire, thereby allowing the regiment to break into the city. During street battles in Sevsk, Ivan Alexandrovich skillfully led his platoon, displaying "exceptional courage." After the liberation of the city, the 193rd Infantry Division as part of the 27th Infantry Corps was in the second echelon of the 65th Army and advanced to the first line when the army units went to the Sozh River . On September 30, 1943, Lieutenant I. A. Radaev, with machine-gun crew, was the first to force a river near the village of Sharpilovka and, gaining a firing position, repelled two enemy counterattacks, thereby ensuring the crossing of the assault battalion. Until mid-October 1943, Ivan Alexandrovich fought for a bridgehead on the right left bank of the river. However, the Germans pulled together large forces between the Sozh and Dnieper rivers, and it was not possible to expand the captured bridgeheads in this direction. Under the circumstances, the commander of the 65th Army, P.I. Batov, decided to break through the East Wall of Germans to the south, in the area of Loev . For this, the forces of the 18th and 27th rifle corps were secretly rearranged. On the night of October 15, 1943, units of the 193rd Infantry Division took up their initial positions south of the village of Kamenka . Pavel Ivanovich Batov later recalled:
The 1st battalion of the 685th Infantry Regiment of the 193rd Division, which crossed the Dnieper in the region of the islands south of Kamenka, successfully operated. To destroy the military guard of the enemy located on the islands, 15 minutes before artillery training, specially dedicated assault groups began to cross the river. They were able to capture a section of the coast, to which, with the beginning of artillery preparation, the advanced battalion under the command of Major V.F. Nesterov crossed over.
- Batov P.I. 1942–1945 (From the experience of the 65th Army).
One of the first on the right bank was reached by Lieutenant I. A. Radaev with two machine-gun calculations of his platoon. Raising a group of foot soldiers in the attack, he burst into the coastal trenches and in hand-to-hand combat broke the enemy’s resistance. Having taken advantageous positions at the coastal height, Ivan Aleksandrovich skillfully arranged firepower. With the fire of "Maximov" his machine gunners reliably covered the crossing of the main forces of the regiment and helped repel the enemy's twelve counterattacks. In the battle for the expansion of the bridgehead south of Loev on the afternoon of October 15, the machine gunners of Radaev repeatedly provided advancement of their infantry. For the successful crossing of the Dnieper River , the solidification of the bridgehead on the western bank of the Dnieper River and the courage and heroism shown by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 30, 1943, Lieutenant Radaev Ivan Alexandrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
Ivan Alexandrovich learned about the awarding of a high rank already in the hospital. In the battles for the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper on October 15, 1943, he was heavily shell-shocked and, in an unconscious state, was evacuated to the hospital. The consequences of the concussion were very severe. After long-term treatment at various medical institutions, I. A. Radaev was commissioned from the army on disability in 1945. After retiring from military service, Ivan Alexandrovich returned to the Saratov region. He lived in the city of Engels . He died on April 24, 1992.
