Biography
Born February 25, 1926 in the city of Ganja . After graduating from high school there ( 1943 ), he entered the Tbilisi Institute of Railway Workers , which he graduated in 1948.
Labor
T. M. Bagirov began his career in 1948 as a duty officer at the Makhachkala branch of the railway department named after Ordzhonikidze. Then he worked as a dispatcher at the Derbent station.
In 1949 , upon arrival in Azerbaijan, he worked as a senior dispatcher at the Balajara station, then - as the deputy chief of the station. After graduating from the Higher Courses of Engineers of the USSR Railway Academy (1953), he worked as the head of the Balajara station.
Political life
Since 1956 , T. M. Bagirov has held leadership positions: deputy head of the service of the movement of the Azerbaijan Railway (1956-1958), head of the Baku branch (1958-1960), first secretary of the Narimanov District Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan in Baku, Minister of Road Transport of the Azerbaijan SSR (1960-1961), first secretary of the CPA city committee in Kirovabad (1962-1966), head of the organizational and party department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan (1966-1971), first deputy head of administration Azerbaijan Railways (1971-1983). He was elected a deputy to the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR , to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR , and was awarded the title of Honorary Railway Worker of the USSR.
He retired in 1983. He took an active part around the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. He was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR, an adviser to the chairman of the board of the "Gaigi" and "Assistance to Karabakh" societies.
He was an adviser to the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1988-2003).
He was elected to the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan ( 1990 - 1995 ). After the collapse of the USSR, he was one of the authors of the Act of Independence. At the proposal of T. M. Bagirov, as Chairman of the Commission, a law on the sovereignty of Azerbaijan was adopted on October 18, 1991 . This day in Azerbaijan is celebrated as Independence Day.
Memory
By the decision of the Council of People’s Deputies of the City of Ganja in 1991, T. M. Bagirov was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Ganja.
