Biography

Gustav Bunge was born on January 7, 1844 in the city of Dorpat. He studied first in his native city, then in Leipzig and Strasbourg under the leadership of Karl Schmidt and Schmiedeberg ; in 1873, he received a Master of Chemistry in Dorpat, in 1874, there, Dr. Chemistry; In 1882, he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine in Leipzig.

In 1874 he became an assistant professor of physiology at Dorpat; since 1885 - Professor at the Department of Physiological Chemistry in Basel.

He became known for his work on the study of blood composition in different animal species, on the composition of milk in different animals, in connection with the study of the composition of the tissues of newborns, on the significance of table salt in food, on the effect of alcohol.

Gustav Alexandrovich Bunge died on November 5, 1920 in Basel.
