Biography
Ivan Maksimovich Pyatkovsky was born on January 19 ( January 6 according to the old style ) in 1913 in the village of Astrakhanovka in the Aktobe district of the Turgay region of the Russian Empire (now the village of Zhanatalap of the Khobdinsky district of the Aktobe region of the Republic of Kazakhstan ) into a peasant family. Russian He graduated from incomplete secondary school and foreman courses at the Tashkent College of Communications. In the years 1935-1937 he served in the service of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . After demobilization, he lived in the Nizhnechirchik district [1] of the Tashkent region of the Uzbek SSR . He worked on the Turkestan-Siberian Railway .
Once again, I.M. Pyatkovsky was called up to the Red Army by the Nizhne-Cherchik district military enlistment office of the Tashkent region on December 25, 1941. Ivan Maksimovich was sent to the 69th Infantry Division, which was being formed in Chirchik . After the division was redeployed to the Volga Military District, he completed short-term junior lieutenant courses and took command of a platoon of the 41st separate communications battalion, later reorganized into a separate company. In the battles with the Nazi invaders I.M. Pyatkovsky from April 1, 1942 on the Western Front . He was baptized in defensive battles near the village of Baryatino in the Smolensk region [2] . The division held its positions in April 1942 until January 1943, after which it was withdrawn to the rear and in February 1943 was transferred to Dmitrovsk-Orlovsky , where it became part of the 65th Army of the Central Front . The commander of the telephone cable platoon of the 41st separate communications company, Senior Lieutenant I.M. Pyatkovsky, distinguished himself in preparing for the advance of the division in the Sevsky direction. During the concentration of the 120th rifle regiment in the forest south of the village of Pervomaisky in the Dmitrovsky district of the Oryol region, he and his fighters for a short time under continuous shelling of the enemy laid a wire line between the command post of the regiment and the command post of the division. During the Sev operation, Ivan Maksimovich provided the division headquarters with uninterrupted wire communication with the regiments, which contributed to the good organization of the battle and the effective controllability of the formations.
During the Soviet offensive in the northern direction, the northern face of the Kursk Bulge was formed. Having occupied positions at the Khlebtovo - Berezovka line south-east of Komarichi , the division held them during the Battle of Kursk . In the summer of 1943 I.M. Pyatkovsky received the rank of captain and was appointed commander of a communications company of the 120th Infantry Regiment. During the preparation for the offensive actions of the division, Captain Pyatkovsky proved himself to be a competent and strong-willed commander. He spent a lot of training in the company, strengthened discipline, well organized the material supply of the unit, as a result of which his soldiers successfully completed combat missions during the Chernihiv-Pripyat operation . Having crossed the Sev River along with the advanced units of the regiment on August 26, 1943, the signalmen of Pyatkovsky laid out an extensive telephone network, providing communication between the regiment commander and the battalion commanders. The uninterrupted communication of the command with the rifle units contributed to the overall success of the regiment when taking large strongholds of the German defense Knyaginino , Chemlyzh and heights of 205.8. On August 30, during a battle for the village of Chemlyzh, Ivan Maksimovich personally entered the line with five fighters of his company to repair the damage. At this moment, the enemy launched a counterattack, and a group of signalmen was surrounded. Having organized a circular defense , Pyatkovsky's group managed to hold out until the evening, and with the onset of darkness broke out of the ring, destroying six German soldiers. During the further offensive, as part of his unit, Captain I. M. Pyatkovsky took part in the liberation of the northern regions of the Chernihiv region . Particularly distinguished when crossing the Dnieper .
On September 28, 1943, advanced units of the 65th Army reached the left bank of the Sozh River . On September 30, assault squads crossed the water barrier and captured several small bridgeheads on the right bank of the river. However, the enemy concentrated large forces in the interfluve of Sozh and the Dnieper, and the army failed to significantly expand the captured bridgeheads. In connection with this command of the 69th Army, it was decided to force the Dnieper to the south, in the Loev area, where the German defense line, called the Eastern Wall , was the most vulnerable. For this purpose, a secretive regrouping of forces of the 18th and 27th rifle corps was carried out. The 69th Infantry Division of the 18th Infantry Corps on the night of October 15, 1943 concentrated north of the village of Radul . At dawn at 6.30 am, under cover of artillery fire and a dense smoke screen, the assault battalion of the 120th rifle regiment rushed to the right bank of the Dnieper. The landing party also included a group of signalmen under the command of Captain I. M. Pyatkovsky. Ivan Maksimovich, sitting at the stern of the boat, personally, under intense mortar and machine-gun fire from the enemy, unwound a pre-prepared cable. A few meters from the right bank, the boat on which Pyatkovsky’s group was located was broken by fragments and began to sink. The last meters the signalmen had to swim, but they were able to save all the equipment and quickly established a bridgehead connection with the left bank. At the same time, not only the division headquarters, but also the headquarters of the 18th Rifle Corps were connected to the telephone cable laid by the Pyatkovsky group. Stable and uninterrupted communication allowed the division commander Major General A.I. Kuzovkov and corps commander Major General I.I. Ivanov to effectively manage troops on the bridgehead and skillfully use artillery to repel enemy counterattacks. It was the latter who initiated the presentation of captain I. M. Pyatkovsky to the highest degree of distinction of the USSR [3] . During the day, Pyatkovsky and his fighters crossed the Dnieper several times under enemy fire, laying additional cables and eliminating damage. During one of these flights, he was wounded and evacuated to the left bank. For the successful crossing of the Dnieper River, the solidification of the bridgehead on the western bank of the Dnieper River and the courage and heroism shown by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 30, 1943, Captain Pyatkovsky Ivan Maksimovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
In 1945, I. M. Pyatkovsky graduated from advanced training courses for officers. He continued his service in the internal troops of the USSR . Ivan Maksimovich retired to the reserve in 1963 with the rank of major. He lived in the city of Kiev , worked at a research institute. December 1, 1986 I.M. Pyatkovsky died. He was buried at the Baykovsky cemetery in Kiev.
