Biography
He was born in the village of Popovka, Sumy County, Kharkov Province, in the family of the architect and engraver N. F. Alferov [1] .
After graduating from one of the Kharkov hostels, he entered the Imperial Kharkov University in 1832 and graduated from his verbal department in 1836 . Since April 14, 1838 he was an honorary caretaker of the Zmievsky district school.
Due to illness [2] he left drawing classes.
From 1857 until the end of his life, A. N. Alferov lived in Germany , replenishing his collection of prints and paintings by famous artists.
Arkady Alferov bequeathed his collection, which totaled more than 3 thousand copies (from Durer and Botticelli to Bryullov and Aivazovsky) to Kharkov University. Later, the collection, whose inventory covers 640 pages, became a significant part of the collection of the Kharkov Art Museum ; the museum received 50 paintings, 420 sheets of original graphics (drawing, watercolors) and about 3 thousand engravings of Western European and Russian masters of the 16th – 19th centuries. During the Great Patriotic War, the collection suffered greatly: now it has 18 paintings, about 150 sheets of original graphics and more than 2 thousand engravings.
He was buried in the Old Cemetery in Bonn .
