Biography
Nikita Kotov was born on April 17, 1915 in the village of Kulikovy Lipyagi (now the Veidelevsky district of the Belgorod region ). Early left without parents, grew up in an orphanage. He graduated from high school and an automotive college, after which he worked as an auto mechanic in a machine and tractor station in the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR . In 1937, Kotov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938 he graduated from the courses of shooter-bombers at the Yeisk Naval Aviation School and externally passed the exams for the officer rank. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. Participated in the defense of Leningrad [1] .
By June 1944, Major Nikita Kotov was the flag navigator of the 1st Guards mine and torpedo air regiment of the 8th mine and torpedo air division of the Baltic Air Force. By that time, he had carried out 152 bombing of enemy targets, sunk 4 vehicles and 1 enemy patrol ship, shot down 1 plane. Repeatedly participated in mine productions [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, for the "exemplary execution of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown in battles with the German invaders" of the guard, Major Nikita Kotov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 4016 [1] .
After the war, Kotov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1948, he graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel. In 1956, with the rank of lieutenant colonel Kotov, he was sacked. He lived in the city of Pushkin (now within the boundaries of St. Petersburg ). He died on March 27, 1979, was buried in the Northern cemetery of St. Petersburg [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, four orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
