Prelude to Dune ( Prelude to Dune ) is a prequel - a trilogy that describes the events that took place before the first “ Dune ” and tells about the first battles with the Harkonen, about the love between the Duke of Summer and Lady Jessica, about the planetologist Kines, who was sent to Arrakis for studies of melange , about sandworms , about Gourney Halleck and sword master Duncan Idaho . The authors of the series are Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson , who used the unpublished recordings of Frank Herbert to create the plot [1] .

The cycle consists of three novels:
- Dune: House of the Atreides (1999)
- Dune: Harkonnen House (2000)
- Dune: Corrino House (2001)
All three novels give a detailed description of the characters who appeared in Frank Herbert's very first novel, Dune.
The main storylines of the cycle are:
- Paul Atreides is more deeply aware of the act of Lady Jessica , who, contrary to the Order of Bene Gesserit, gives birth to a son instead of her daughter;
- the reasons are described that badly influenced the formation of the personality of Fade-Rauta Harkonnen ;
- Gourney Halleck gets his scar from the Inquine;
- the appearance of Rev. Mother Ramallo;
- Dr. Yue's appearance and the beginning of his relationship with House Atreides and Harkonnen ;
- the attempt of Emperor Shaddam IV to gain unlimited power;
- Tleilax is captured by the planet X and is developing an artificial spice - amal ;
- an explanation of the origin of the name of Gloss Raban is given - “The Beast”;
- Rev. Mother Mohamm experiences Lady Jessica in the same way as Paul Atreides in the first Dune novel, but besides pain, Lady Jessica also feels a sense of pleasure and eternity;
- refers to the origin of the non-ship ;
- the intrigues and plots of Vladimir Harkonnen against the House of Atreides and the Order of Bene Gesserit.
