History
The idea of installing the monument to Bunin was proposed by the Buninsky Heritage Association and supported by the Department of Culture of the Capital, the Moscow Committee for Architecture and the Heritage Committee "in order to perpetuate the memory of the Nobel Prize winner who made a major contribution to Russian and world literature" [1] . The monument was created by sculptor Alexander Burganov , the author of the monument to Bunin in Voronezh , and the architect Victor Pasenko. The sculpture of the writer is made of bronze and installed on a low granite pedestal. Ivan Bunin is depicted standing with a folded cloak in his hands and looking into the distance in a calm aristocratic pose. The place where the monument was erected - near the house number 26 on Povarskaya Street - was not chosen by chance: it was here that Bunin lived in Moscow before he immigrated from Russia to France forever [2] . On December 11, 1993, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the house.
The monument was donated to Moscow by the Museum of Classical and Modern Art " Burganov-Center ". The opening of the monument took place on October 22, 2007 and was timed to the 137th anniversary of the birth of the writer [3] .
