New World, an American-style all-inclusive supermarket chain, was founded in 1963 and became the first supermarket brand of its kind for Foodstuffs. In New Zealand, before that there was only one such chain of integrated supermarkets - . As of September 1, 2013, the New World chain brought together 137 stores throughout New Zealand.
The competitors of the New World network are the Countdown retail chains of Progressive Enterprises , same name, as well as the friendly supermarket chains Four Square and Pak'nSave of the parent company Foodstuffs [1] .
New World stores are usually smaller (2,500-3,000 m²) than competitors' supermarkets. Buyers are provided with high-quality, elite products, in connection with which prices in most stores of the New World network are usually higher than in retail outlets of competitors. In addition, New World supermarkets employ a large number of employees (up to 200-300 in some large supermarkets). New World supermarkets often lose out to their competitors, especially in smaller cities.
The New World network has been a member of the discount program since its launch in September 1996.
New World has traditionally been issuing promotional brochures with discounts and special offers delivered through New Zealand residents' mailboxes . On the North Island (in the upper part) there is a weekly “Auto Coupon” promotion, during which customers can register on a special website and may not show vouchers when paying for purchases. For the southern part of the North Island, a monthly Coupon promotion is offered. On the South Island of New Zealand, consumers were required to present a discount card when paying for purchases, but at the end of 2009 this system was replaced by a loyalty program similar to that on the North Island.
In early 2003, the New World network participated in the project, a fully electronic banking network created to save consumers money. While the advertising campaigns of this project were carried out in supermarkets of the New World network, no financial services were provided through the network in stores. In August 2006, it was announced that due to large losses, the Superbank project would be closed and the project portfolio would be sold at .
