“Waiting” - mono - opera Michaela Tariverdiev from Robert Rozhdestvensky ’s poem “Waiting (monologue of a woman)” (1982). The work was written specifically for the Boris Pokrovsky Chamber Theater “based on the unique talent of Maria Lemesheva ”, the soloist of the theater [1] (daughters of Sergey Lemeshev and Irina Maslennikova , stepdaughter of Pokrovsky).

The premiere took place in the Pokrovsky Theater on October 26, 1985 with M. Lemesheva in a single role. She remained in this theater her only performer, including the resumption of opera in the XXI century.

Synopsis
In the opera, there is only one character - “ She ”, the heroine who comes on a date 32 minutes earlier than the man, and during the waiting time she has time to relive the barrage of various emotions that she expresses in the form of a monologue.

That's how - was the first,
It was necessary to be late
Somewhere on the side to get up.
What to do - lost nerves.
It was as if on the exam,
From Friday counted the days
How: meeting under the clock ...
Under the clock? Here they are…
And he is not there.
How inappropriate the nerves passed.
Well, still, on a date
I have not been for so many years! ..
Even scary to count. (etc)
“A modern woman, wrapped up with all the problems, duties and social functions entrusted to her by society, and, in truth, by herself (in the former fervor of emancipation), goes on a date with her beloved and waits for him under the watch. What is going on in her soul for thirty-two minutes of this agonizing wait — from passionate vehemence to despondency and almost despair — Tariverdiev’s music draws us all with appealing simplicity and truthfulness ” [2] .
In a classical production, the opera does not have a happy end: “it ends sadly, enlightenedly, but sadly - at least a big question, and in the first production (that is, in Pokrovsky), it was shown quite specifically - the heroine leaves alone” [2] . But, for example, in the version of “New Opera” (2010), an optimistic finale was given, which caused a storm of positive emotions in the hall - the heroine waited for someone to go on a date.
Music
“The music of Tariverdiev is devoid of innovations of composition (...), it is easy and accessible, balancing on the verge of academism and pop music. “Maybe the harmonic language of this opera could be more tart, rich. But I still prefer emotional language, ” the composer himself wrote about his work. And Tariverdiyev did it: his music is not banal, although there is much that is recognizable in it, namely, light and elegant, and most importantly, very sincere. The listener is following with interest the monologue of the heroine, her changing moods - hidden passion, weary longing, impatience, emptiness and despondency ” [2] .
